1991/02/16, 2. This was the second and final time I saw this train - it was as rare as hen's teeth! It ran Saturdays Only, as required! 31417 with its train of Cargowaggons in the former UKF fertiliser depot (by this time owned by Kemira) on the Woodham industrial estate at Akeman Street on what was the line between Grendon Underwood and Ashendon Junctions. 11:00, Saturday 16th February 1991. The train originated from Ince & Elton and ran to Bletchley on Fridays, part of the train continued further and this part made its way here via Claydon L&NE Junction and Grendon Underwood Junction. On departure, the loco propelled the train back to Grendon Underwood, then ran to Aylesbury to run-round before retracing its steps to Bletchley. Here the train is being unloaded at the depot by a forklift truck. Photos taken with permission.

This was the last day that the semaphore signalling was in operation, parts of the signals having already been removed. The new colour light signalling is in place but yet to be commissioned. Most services were operated by Class 115 DMUs, but these were on their last legs and there was a shortage of sets. So some services were worked by Class 47s and Mk.I coaches - here 47521 arrives with the 14:51 train from Aylesbury, which departed for Marylebone at 15:08 on Friday 1st March 1991. Note the junction for the Thame and Watlington lines has also been relocated by the signalbox.
