1958/xx/xx, 8. From the Geoff Plumb Collection of original slides. LMS Fowler 2P 4-4-0 No. 40621 was a member of the class introduced in 1928 as a development of the original Midland Railway 1912 built Johnson locos, with cut-down boiler mountings and 6' 9" driving wheels. Many of those in Scotland retained their stylish chimneys, including this one, simmering between duties at Polmadie depot, Glasgow, some time in 1958. Photographer unknown. 40621 was built at Derby Works in November 1929 and was withdrawn from Corkerhill MPD in October 1961. It was scrapped by Connell, Union Works, Coatbridge, in July 1963.

LNER J36 0-6-0 No. 65300 was a member of a very long-lived class, originally introduced in 1888 by Holmes of the North British Railway. Several engines were shipped overseas during the First World War and were named appropriately when they returned. One of these, No. 65243
