1967/12/19, 4. Inside the Winding-House at Water Haigh Colliery at Woodlesford in West Yorkshire, the whole interior so beautifully kept that visitors were required to remove their shoes! Only part of one half of the winding engine can be seen in this view, the steam chest for the left hand cylinder is prominent in the foreground, the actual cylinder is half out of the picture to the left. The other half of the two cylinder engine is out of picture to the right. The winding drum is highlighted by a shaft of sunlight on the right of the picture. The engine is working, as can be seen from the blurring of the valve motion painted red on the left of the picture. All this was swept away in the name of progress....Tuesday 19th December 1967.
