1962/08/10, 2. Seen from the West Gate bridge on Rockingham Road, Stewarts & Lloyds steelworks at Corby, alongside the former Midland main line. S&L 0-6-0ST No. 7 (Andrew Barclay No. 1268/1912) shunts some steel cauldron wagons, while in the background LMS Stanier 8F 2-8-0 No. 48285 is in the yard. Friday 10th August 1962. Originally sold to Easton Gibb & Son in 1912 and used in the construction of Rosyth Dockyard, S&L No. 7 was scrapped at Corby Works in 1968

S&L 0-6-0ST No. 21 (Hawthorn Leslie No. 3931/1936) shunts some full blast furnace slag ladles in the yard. Friday 10th August 1962. This engine still exists, at the Ribble Steam Railway, Preston.Previous | Next1962/08/12. Staveley Iron Works near Chesterfield had its own internal rail system, but hired in motive power from the Midland Railway. It apparently had a 100 year contract, which rather outlasted the provision of Midland power, but did ensure some ancient engines survived! Here, Johnson
