1969/09/xx, 2. The view from the semi-derelict interior of Prospect Hill signalbox, Whitby. This is the view looking towards Whitby West Cliff station. The line on the left is the track from Whitby Town station via Bog Hall which passed under Larpool viaduct and the 'box was on stilts above this track. The two tracks on the right are at a higher level, the centre track is the main line from Scarborough, while that on the right was a loop. The line from Scarborough had closed in 1965, together with the track to Bog Hall, but was left in situ for a while as there was the possibility of using the line to a projected potash mine near Hawsker. In the event, this was built at Boulby and all this was demolished. September 1969.

1970/01/xx, 1. The steep and curved line that came up the hill from Whitby Town station via Bog Hall Junction and under Larpool Viaduct to Prospect Hill and Whitby West Cliff station had been disused for some time but had been left in situ as there was the possibility of a potash mine being opened near Hawsker. Trains would have reversed at Prospect Hill and then crossed Larpool Viaduct in the background on the line to Hawsker and Scarborough. In the event, the mine was opened at Boulby, so all this was dismantled, the trackbed now used in parts as a footpath. January 1970.

The lower quadrant semaphore signals are Great Central Railway, the right-hand one "off" for a DMU to crossover into the opposite platform, and the swan-necked lights were probably gas originally. A wagon of coal stands at the buffer stops, waiting for its load to be transferred to one of the cross Humber paddle-steamers. PS "Tattershall Castle" is moored out of use at the end of the pier. All this came to an end with the opening of the Humber Bridge, when the service ceased. Tuesday 31st August 1971.

This is the (then) proposed North Holderness Light Railway from Beverley to North Frodingham. The maps were produced by Messrs Craven, Dunnill & Co Ltd of Jackfield, Shropshire. There are 64 map tiles plus edging tiles around all four sides and the railway title at the top.
