1964/08/08, 8. An unlikely occupant of the goods yard at Pwllheli is ex-LB&SCR A1X "Terrier" 0-6-0T No. 32640 which has recently arrived on a well wagon. It has been cosmetically restored to a semblance of LB&SCR livery, though it is still carrying its BR number. It had been purchased by Sir Billy Butlin and had arrived to go on display at the Holiday Camp at Pen-y-Chain, along with Stanier "Princess Royal" 4-6-2 No. 46203 "Princess Margaret Rose". Both engines have since returned to steam, 32640 on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway as W11 "Newport". Saturday 8th August 1964. 1024x678 GMP_Slide947_32640_Pwllheli.jpg |
1964/08/10. BR Standard 4MT 2-6-4T No. 80105 trundles across the wooden bridge over the Afon Glaslyn, having just passed Minffordd Quarry and heading for Porthmadog with the 18:00 train from Barmouth to Pwllheli on the evening of Monday 10th August 1964. The engine is working bunkerfirst which was fairly unusual, even the tank engines being turned at each end of their journeys. Behind the engine is the peak of Cnicht and the Moelwyn mountains are to the right. 1024x636 GMP_Slide935_80105_AfonGlaslyn.jpg |
1964/08/11, 1. LMS Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 No 46520 climbs away from the Glaslyn estuary, Porthmadog and Moel-y-Gest in the background. It is passing Minffordd quarry, approaching Minffordd (Cambrian) station with the 07:35 from Pwllheli to Barmouth stopping passenger train, Tuesday 11th August 1964. 1024x674 GMP_Slide932_46520_Minfford.jpg |
