1992/12/20, 3. On a freezing Sunday evening in December 1992, BR Standard 4-6-2 No. 70000 "Britannia" attempts to start its heavy train away from Stratford-upon-Avon on icy rails. The train is just on the move but the engine is slipping furiously (sparks can be seen coming off the wheels amidst the steam from the sanders!). About three flashguns have gone off and "frozen" the image, but is is far from perfect. LNER Gresley A4 Class 4-6-2 No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" is romping along its old stamping ground on the East Coast Main Line at Arlesey with the "A4 Finale" from London King's Cross to York and Scarborough and return. This was one of the engine's final runs before undergoing another overhaul. 10:25, Sunday 6th June 1999. There was supposed to be a Class 47 diesel on the rear as "insurance", but it had failed at King's Cross, thus delaying the train, which was about 40 minutes late at this point.
