Belgium. 1985/08/23, 2. Alongside the line between Namur and Dinant was a quarry near Lustin in the Meuse Valley. An industrial four wheel diesel shunter rests in the exchange sidings at the quarry, the SNCB lines beyond it, electrification masts just put in place. Belgium. 1985/08/24, 1. SNCB Class 54 Nohab diesel No. 5404 works a local passenger train along the valley of the River Meuse near Lustin with a working from Dinant to Namur. Initial signs of impending electrification are apparent in the form of the newly erected catenary poles. Saturday 24th August 1985. Belgium. 1985/08/24, 2. SNCB Class 54 Nohab diesel No. 5407 bursts out of a tunnel near Lustin, along the valley of the River Meuse, as it works a local passenger train from Namur to Dinant on the morning of Saturday 24th August 1985. Initial electrification works are in place, catenary poles already erected. Belgium. 1985/08/24, 3. 1985 saw the 150th anniversary of railways in Belgium and various steam-hauled specials were run as part of the celebrations. Here, streamlined "Atlantic" 4-4-2 No. 12.004 is double-heading with 2-8-0 No. 29.013 as they work a special from Namur to Dinant along the valley of the River Meuse seen emerging from a tunnel near Lustin. Belgium. 1985/08/24, 4. SNCB Class 12 4-4-2 "Atlantic" No. 12.004 double-heading with Class 29 2-8-0 No. 29.013 are now running along the left bank of the River Meuse on the approach to Dinant with their four coach train, the 09:05 from Namur on Saturday 24th August 1985. On the privately preserved "Stoomtram Hoorn - Medemblik" line in North Holland, Netherlands, 0-4-0WT No. 30 (Jung No. 1268/1908) is being replenished with water from a hosepipe into its well tank between the frames. It is standing in the loop at Medemblik station adjacent to the Ijsselmeer. Once watered it backed onto its train of six four-wheeled coaches for the trip to Hoorn.
