Belgium. 1985/08/23, 1. SNCB electric loco of class 23 No. 2329 has arrived at Namur at the head of a passenger train, origin unknown, and destination likewise! Friday 23rd August 1985.

Belgium. 1985/08/23, 2. Alongside the line between Namur and Dinant was a quarry near Lustin in the Meuse Valley. An industrial four wheel diesel shunter rests in the exchange sidings at the quarry, the SNCB lines beyond it, electrification masts just put in place. Friday 23rd August 1985.

Belgium. 1985/08/24, 1. SNCB Class 54 Nohab diesel No. 5404 works a local passenger train along the valley of the River Meuse near Lustin with a working from Dinant to Namur. Initial signs of impending electrification are apparent in the form of the newly erected catenary poles. Saturday 24th August 1985. This engine is now preserved.

Belgium. 1985/08/24, 2. SNCB Class 54 Nohab diesel No. 5407 bursts out of a tunnel near Lustin, along the valley of the River Meuse, as it works a local passenger train from Namur to Dinant on the morning of Saturday 24th August 1985. Initial electrification works are in place, catenary poles already erected. Apparently, there is a cave which opens out into this tunnel, from which it is possible to drop down onto the track, not surprisingly, this cave is gated and access is restricted!

Belgium. 1985/08/24, 3. 1985 saw the 150th anniversary of railways in Belgium and various steam-hauled specials were run as part of the celebrations. Here, streamlined "Atlantic" 4-4-2 No. 12.004 is double-heading with 2-8-0 No. 29.013 as they work a special from Namur to Dinant along the valley of the River Meuse seen emerging from a tunnel near Lustin. Saturday 24th August 1985.

Belgium. 1985/08/24, 4. SNCB Class 12 4-4-2 "Atlantic" No. 12.004 double-heading with Class 29 2-8-0 No. 29.013 are now running along the left bank of the River Meuse on the approach to Dinant with their four coach train, the 09:05 from Namur on Saturday 24th August 1985. The electrification work was a little more advanced here, but didn't spoil the view completely!

Belgium. 1985/08/24, 5. SNCB Class 29 2-8-0 No. 29.013 stands in the loops at Dinant station having worked there double-heading with 4-4-2 No. 12.004 from Namur a short while earlier. Saturday 24th August 1985.

Belgium. 1985/08/24, 6. SNCB Class 52 No. 5212 waits for departure time at Dinant station with a stopping train of wonderful old stock to Namur, along the valley of the River Meuse. Saturday 24th August 1985.

Belgium. 1985/08/24, 7. Streamlined "Atlantic" 4-4-2 No. 12.004 sets off from Namur with the 11:33 special to Dinant, crossing the viaduct over the River Meuse. These engines had a rather peculiar arrangement of inside cylinders but with outside valve gear. Saturday 24th August 1985.

Belgium. 1985/08/24, 8. SNCB Class 54 Nohab diesel No. 5408 comes across the level-crossing in Jambes with a local passenger train from Namur to Dinant on the rather wet afternoon of Saturday 24th August 1985.

Belgium. 1985/08/24, 9. SNCB 4-4-2 No. 12.004 heads south over the level-crossing in Jambes with the 15:33 special from Namur to Dinant during the celebrations of 150 years of railways in Belgium. Saturday 24th August 1985.

Belgium. 1985/08/25, 1. SNCB Class 54 Nohab diesel No. 5404 skirts the River Meuse as it passes the quarry near Lustin with a morning passenger train from Namur to Dinant on Sunday 25th August 1985.

Belgium. 1985/08/25, 2. Class 29 2-8-0 No. 29.013 is double-heading with streamlined "Atlantic" 4-4-2 Class 12 No. 12.004 as they come over the level-crossing into Yvoir to stop at the station there. This was the 09:05 special from Namur to Dinant along the valley of the River Meuse on Sunday 25th August 1985, as part of the 150th anniversary of Belgian Railways celebrations.

Netherlands. 1985/08/18, 1. On the privately preserved "Stoomtram Hoorn - Medemblik" line in North Holland, Netherlands, 0-4-0WT No. 30 (Jung No. 1268/1908) is being replenished with water from a hosepipe into its well tank between the frames. It is standing in the loop at Medemblik station adjacent to the Ijsselmeer. Once watered it backed onto its train of six four-wheeled coaches for the trip to Hoorn. Sunday 18th August 1985.
